Have you heard about Enoggera Creek Sport and Recreation Draft Precinct Plan? This is just outside of Maiwar, but I've received a couple emails from locals who are very concerned about this proposal.
It seems like this plan includes a lot of re-shuffling of existing facilities, rather than providing new sporting fields. The majority of the existing clubs would need to shut down and move to cram in as many as possible in the space. I think it raises some important questions about why the Council and Federal Government think a shiny new community facility is better than an established hub within the community.
Some of my other concerns include:
✏️ the Brisbane City Council’s lax community engagement for this project, consisting of just three informational sessions where the facilitators didn’t take notes and didn’t know specifics of the plan, plus an online survey with a word limit.
🌳 Notable loss of accessible parkland, to be transformed into formalised sporting fields. We certainly need sporting facilities, but I can’t support this coming at a loss to public parkland
🌱 Runoff from hard courts and synthetic courts into Enoggera Creek
If you are concerned about this proposal, remember to email the project team at communityfacilities@brisbane.qld.gov.au or complete the online survey here: https://feedback.brisbane.qld.gov.au/.../SV_1NEaDzWHAmaPtZ4
